Illustrations for Rick Court's Blog

Our school has a new Dean, Rick Court, and we were asked to illustrated a few images based off of his blog post. One of the pictures were to be a main illustration, to show at the beginning of the blog, and we were asked to do a couple small illustrations to put throughout the post; just kind of narrowing down that one area.

So for the main illustration I kind of wanted to show how he'd been with Mohawk from the beginning. Kind of like he watched it grow up. So, on the left it shows Rick as a kid with his friends playing "kingers" in the background and the chestnut tree, subtly, off to the side; his past. Then on the right would be his present self with Mohawk in the background.
I went really cartoony with this one because I've been drawing little depictions of my friends for the last few weeks, and they liked them so much, that I thought it might be kind of cute to use the style for one of my projects.

In the main picture there are chestnuts, and a tie in the top corners of the illustration. I thought it would be a nice touch. Also it gave me a way of transitioning between the two styles used for the main picture and the smaller ones. I thought it was a cool way of tying them together. I also gave it the same sort of background.. thingy.
This one is of a hard hat, which I would assume he wore while working at the Blast Furnace mentioned in his blog. The background kind of looks fire-ish to maybe imply what kind of working conditions he had to endure. I'm thinking it was kind of like hell...

The next little illustration is of a basketball. So exciting! Please tell us more! Rick had mentioned that he played basketball in his spare time. And I like basketball, so that's why I went with that.
I know right? So symbolic.

This was actually a rather fun project to work on. I liked tying everything together to make it look like it all fit. And drawing little cartoon people is so much fun.
I hope it all works as well as I think it does. O.o'
