Wall Mural.

So, I moved to a new house, and ended up with the attic of the house. It's a huge room, and I love it, except there is one problem; the entire room is covered in this awful wooden paneling. It's completely uninspiring, and pretty tacky. So, I asked my mom if I could paint a wall, and for whatever reason, she said yes. I immediately went to work, taking my mom's "yes" as permission for free roam.

At first I thought of going morbid and dark, naturally, lots of blood. But, then I started thinking of who would see this wall. Obviously I couldn't subject my three year old niece to that, so I went in the other direction.

Colourful and fun it is!

Quickly I dug out my tablet and doodled an idea down.

first idea

So, that was my first draft, the next step was to get my wall ready for painting on. This was my first mural, and I didn't have any idea how to start this thing. So, I asked around at the various paint stores around here. All of them suggested that I put a couple layers of primer on it before I start painting, and that's what I did. After that I bought my colours and began painting. :)

1 The start

Doesn't look like much yet. I just tried putting down a blue gradient.

2 Started details in the background

Added a swirly effect to give it a "Starry Night" look.

3 Start on girl

The beginning of the lady. She looks ill right now, and I didn't really go with the yellow skin in the first sketch. My brother walked in when the skin was still yellow and asked if I was painting Marge Simpson, I changed the colour after that comment, and am eternally more happy with it.

4 Moon and girl start

Zoom out of the previous picture. The moon has like the first layer of yellow down at this point, that's why it looks a little dark. The yellow paint I got was very transparent, so I had to add a lot of layers to anything yellow.

5 More on the girl

More work on the lady, and a friendly little cloud is added.

6 Starting the rainbow

Some stars in the lady's hair, few more clouds, and a rainbow is added to the night scene. My friend saw the rough sketch of this thing, and was like, "Mischa, only you would add a rainbow to a night scene." What can I say? I like rainbows.

7 More clouds

Just about done. More clouds are added and some outlining on the clouds and moon, even though you can't really see the moon in this shot.

8 Close up on girl

A close up of the previous picture. LADY!

9 Finished girl

Finished lady. Decided at the last minute to change her lip colour. I think it looks more pretty in pink. And gave her a rainbow highlight on her back because of the rainbow behind her.

10 Finished

Finished left side of the wall.

11 Finished 2

Finished right side of the wall.

12 Last detail

Me, painting on the last detail. Thought I'd record the last stroke of the paintbrush.

13 Done!

And I'm done! I decided to pose with the wall.

14 Over all picture

Here's a shot of the overall wall. It was really hard to take a good picture of it. The entire wall is on like a 15 degree angle, and it's a very large wall. The picture really doesn't do it justice.

Anywho, I really enjoyed doing this. I was kind of sad to be finished really, but I love the outcome.

Hope you guys like it.

Bye for now!
